Cancer research is a long-term endeavor. The path from an important scientific insight to a treatment that can change patients’ life often take years of careful study, collaboration and clinical testing.
Helping move cancer research forward
The Alliance is part of the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN). Through collaboration with the NCTN and the NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP), Alliance investigators work across a broad research network to develop and conduct clinical trials, advance cancer prevention and treatment, and reduce the burden of cancer and its treatment.
This work is supported by federal funding, institutional partnerships, and philanthropy, including support from the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Foundation. Established in 1993, the nonprofit, tax-exempt Foundation provides additional funding for Alliance research.
Supporting research that can make a difference
Foundation support gives Alliance investigators opportunities to pursue innovative research and explore questions that can shape the future of cancer care, including:
- Developing new and more effective approaches to treating cancer
- Advancing innovative surgical and other treatment strategies
- Identifying genetic and molecular factors that guide treatments
- Discovering ways to prevent cancer or reduce the risk of recurrence
- Improving quality of life of people living with cancer
- Addressing the needs of patients and caregivers
Because the Alliance brings together researchers and cancer specialists from across the United States, our research has the potential to benefit patients in academic medical centers, hospitals, and community cancer centers across North America and, ultimately, beyond.
Investing in the people who advance cancer research
The Foundation also provides funding opportunities for promising investigators and innovative research across the Alliance. These awards support the next generation of cancer researchers, foster new ideas, and strengthen the science that underpins clinical trials.

How you can help
Progress in cancer research depends on sustained investment—in promising ideas, research infrastructure, and the people who move science forward. Philanthropic support gives investigators opportunities to pursue innovative research that might otherwise be difficult to advance. Donors may designate gifts to their wishes, and contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
